When it comes to cleaning the glass on a log burner, it is so important you do it safely, but how?
This is how!
- Wait for the stove to cool (sounds common sense but you never know!!)
- Grab some kitchen roll or old newspaper and dampen it slightly – be careful not to have it sopping wet as water and metal are a great combination for rust! Then dip the dampened towel/paper into the wood ash (ALWAYS wood ash – never use this technique if you have been burning smokeless coal as it will scratch the glass!) and rub away at any carbon deposits on the glass, dipping back into the wood ash when you need some extra va va voom to get it going! It may take a bit of time but this is by far the cheapest and most environmentally friendly way of cleaning the glass!
- Use a soft cloth or another dry paper towel to wipe the glass surface and buff up the glass once all the carbo has been rubbed away. Work in circular motions to effectively remove the residue. Repeat this step if necessary until the glass is clean and clear.
- Dispose of any used cloths or paper towels properly, especially if they contain soot or residue.
Regularly cleaning the glass on a log burner not only keeps it looking beautiful but also ensures the efficiency of the stove by allowing maximum heat transfer into the room. Remember, following manufacturer guidelines and using appropriate cleaning materials is crucial to preserve the glass and keep your log burner looking its best.
